At Vanguard Cattle, we believe in hard work, quality beef, and Texas-sized values. Our family has been in Texas for generations, and while a lot has changed since our ancestors first arrived, some things never do - like integrity, perseverance, and taking pride in a job well done.

 

We’re Steven and Wendy Neidigk, a husband-and-wife team with deep Texas roots. Steven’s family came from Germany when Texas was its own nation, and Wendy’s ancestors trace back to the founding of the United States. We both grew up in Texas - Steven in Kingsville, home of the legendary King Ranch, and Wendy in Austin, where she watched her father build a successful business from the ground up. That same entrepreneurial spirit is what drives us today.

 

After meeting at Texas A&M University, we got married, raised four wonderful kids, and now have thirteen grandkids running around. Family is at the heart of everything we do, and Vanguard Cattle is no exception. Our kids share and support the values that make Vanguard Cattle what it is today.

 

Why Santa Gertrudis Cattle:

Growing up near King Ranch, Steven knew firsthand how tough Santa Gertrudis cattle were. This breed, the first American breed, was developed to thrive in Texas’ harsh conditions - hot, dry, humid, and full of bugs. If you’re raising cattle in Texas, you’re in Gert country, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

We’ve cleared out invasive brush, planted native grasses, and kept parts of the ranch wild to support deer, quail, and other Texas wildlife.
